25 Near the station, an old steam engine from "Cosmotrans" that served the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Even now, "Cosmotrans" carries most of the staff to the cosmodrome (with diesel engines). It is also responsible for transporting equipment on the base.

27 In late August, Baikonur is in bloom (Lenin Square). Baikonur city is at rest. It is very hot, public gardens are watered thoroughly and without counting. This sometimes benefits flowers and trees but most of the time it benefits the weeds. So much for the Aral Sea!
